“Energy Efficiency” Award for Tüpraş
Tüpraş İzmir Refinery has been honored with the first prize in the "Large Scale Enterprises" category of the Energy Efficiency Awards, organized by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO). This recognition is a testament to Tüpraş's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Through its U-7000 Crude Oil Revamp Project, Tüpraş has achieved remarkable energy savings, equivalent to the annual natural gas consumption of 39,000 households in just one year.
Arda Yıldırım, Manager of Tüpraş İzmir Refinery, proudly received the award from distinguished guests, including Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISO.
Arda Yıldırım highlighted Tüpraş's dedication to minimizing its environmental impact while enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. The U-7000 Crude Oil Unit, which accounts for approximately 18 percent of Turkey's crude oil processing capacity, underwent a significant transformation over 24 months. This modernization effort not only increased the unit's sustainable capacity but also enhanced its reliability and efficiency. Upon completion, the project led to a remarkable 34 Gcal/hour reduction in the energy consumption of the U-7000 Crude Oil Unit, accompanied by a 2 percent improvement in its overall efficiency.
Since its commissioning in April 2018, this initiative has resulted in annual energy savings of approximately 300 thousand Gcal, equivalent to the annual natural gas consumption of 39,000 households. Furthermore, this achievement has prevented the release of approximately 95 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability. Tüpraş's dedication to energy efficiency continues to be recognized and celebrated through initiatives like this one.
