Tüpraş released Sustainability Report for 2020
Tüpraş released its “Sustainability Report”, in which it has shared its activities performed in 2020 with the motto of “We Know the Value of Life”. Stating that they have improved their environmental, social, and corporate performance every day, İbrahim Yelmenoğlu, General Manager of Tüpraş, said, “We made almost 20 percent of our investments for the last 10 years in sustainability. We will raise the bar to higher levels by the end of 2021 and we will use 40 percent of our total investments amounting approximately TRY 1.7 billion for sustainability projects.”
The report, which was prepared in compliance with the “basic” option of Global Reporting Standards, included best practices of Tüpraş in sustainability as well as its efforts in the fight against Covid-19 and the opinions of stakeholders on collaborations. Additionally, Progress Report on UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), of which Tüpraş is a signatory, is also included in the report. Tüpraş, guided by United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in all of its business processes from production to supply chain and aftersales operations, continues its operations by combining sustainability with its corporate culture.

“We have invested TRY 238 million in the environment in 2020”
Telling that they have acted with the consciousness of a responsible manufacturer, Yelmenoğlu said that they have continued their works for reducing utilization of natural resources in all of their processes to reduce their impacts on the environment and for the efficient use of resources and recycling of wastes. Yelmenoğlu also said that they have invested TRY 238 million in 2020 in the environment for their production processes and as a part of their productivity-focused innovative practices for products.
Stating that they aim to be among the best refineries in the world in terms of energy efficiency, Yelmenoğlu added, “As a result of our energy-saving projects and modernization works, we saved 713 thousand GJ energy and we reduced our carbon dioxide emission by 39.6 thousand tons in 2020.”

Saying that they evaluate the impact of climate change risks on their business processes, Yelmenoğlu added, “We closely follow up the developments in international platforms, such as European Green Deal and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in transition to a low carbon economy. We include potential carbon pricing in the feasibility works of our investment projects, and we evaluate environmental impacts of our projects holistically through “Life Cycle Analysis”. We intensively continue our R&D works to reduce CO2 and our collaborations with leading research centers, universities, and industrial corporations of the world. We aim to be involved with renewable fuels and hydrogen production-related projects in Horizon Europe following Horizon 2020. We reserved TRY 43.4 million in total for our R&D works in 2021.”
Continuing its operations with the motto of “We Know the Value of Life” in order to leave a more livable world for future generations, Tüpraş is determined to invest in sustainability by saying “Our Energy Never Ends”.
