Tüpraş has become the Most Successful Turkish Industrial Corporation in HORIZON 2020, EU’s R&D and Innovation Program
Tüpraş has secured €5.86 million in financial support under HORIZON 2020, the world's largest grant program, implemented by the EU to support scientific and applied research, development, and innovation projects. With 11 R&D projects eligible for support, Tüpraş topped the list of Turkish industrial corporations, as published by TÜBİTAK.
İbrahim Yelmenoğlu, General Manager of Tüpraş, stated, "Achieving first place on the list is the result of intensive work and is backed by Tüpraş's qualified team of researchers, premium laboratory infrastructure, and effective internal and inter-organizational collaboration."
Tüpraş has become the most successful Turkish Industrial Corporation in HORIZON 2020, Europe's most important research and innovation program, by securing €5.86 million in financial support for its 11 R&D projects.
İbrahim Yelmenoğlu, General Manager of Tüpraş, highlighted that participating in HORIZON 2020 projects is an important means of developing new technologies and accessing advanced technologies by collaborating with experts and specialized organizations.
He said, "Our success is the result of the right strategic steps we have taken in our R&D studies. At Tüpraş, we prioritize new technologies that focus on productivity, environment, and digitalization. Achieving first place on the list is the result of intensive work, and Tüpraş's qualified team of researchers, premium laboratory infrastructure, and effective internal and inter-organizational collaboration lie behind it."
Stating that R&D will continue to be one of the most important topics for Tüpraş, Yelmenoğlu added, "R&D is a force for transformation and development that will reposition the competition for Tüpraş. Our R&D strength will continue to be the driving force in determining our strategies for the future, thanks to the value it adds to our company and the acceleration it brings to our business processes. Beyond the financial support it provides, our presence in the HORIZON 2020 program is an important motivator for our R&D studies.
HORIZON 2020, implemented by the European Union, is the grant program with the highest budget in the world. The program, initiated to provide support for Europe's science and technology policies, strengthens research and technology development capacity while promoting collaboration between universities and corporations at the international level.
Various project calls are opened in several areas, such as information and communication technologies, environment and raw materials, energy, transportation, and health, for the program. Large-scale industrial corporations, SMEs, R&D centers, universities, academicians, research centers, non-governmental organizations, public entities and organizations, municipalities, TGBs, TTOs, public development agencies, technology-based initiatives, international organizations, and scientists can apply to these calls to receive grants for their projects. HORIZON 2020, initiated in 2014, was implemented with a large budget of €80 billion. Turkey has participated in the program by allocating €436 million.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Chairman of TÜBİTAK, emphasized the importance of the HORIZON 2020 program for Turkey, stating, "In parallel with the goal of building stronger integration with the international arena and the European Research Zone, establishing strategic R&D and innovation collaborations through result-oriented projects with high budgets and high impacts is crucial for our country. In this regard, the HORIZON 2020 program is of critical importance for integration with the European Research Zone. Our institutions and organizations should benefit from TÜBİTAK's HORIZON 2020 Support and Reward Programs, which aim to increase participation and maximize the benefits gained from the HORIZON 2020 program, and which Tüpraş has also applied for and utilized while achieving this success. Additionally, our researchers can receive support from our TÜBİTAK HORIZON 2020 National Coordination Office both before the application and during the course of their projects. We are proud of Tüpraş's achievement, being the most successful Turkish industrial corporation in the HORIZON 2020 Program. I'd like to congratulate everyone involved in this success."
